chiropractic care in Port Perry

  • During pregnancy, a mother’s center of gravity shifts and her posture compensates accordingly. The ligament laxity necessary for birthing creates instability in all of her joints, including her spine and pelvis. This makes her more prone to injury and can limit the baby's ability to get in the proper position for birth.

Most importantly, we know that baby’s nervous system mirrors what is happening in mama’s nervous system. Chiropractic care is wonderful for creating balance in the nervous system.

  • Chiropractic care has proven effective for common problems like headaches, acid reflux, sinus troubles, and pain in the back and legs. It can also help ensure that babies are properly positioned for birth, increasing the likelihood of a smoother delivery with minimal medical interventions, regardless of where the birth takes place. Additionally, chiropractic care supports postpartum recovery for both mom and baby, enhancing breastfeeding, milk production, and addressing issues such as colic, digestive problems, ear infections, and supporting healthy neuro-motor development.

  • Chiropractic helps with so much more than just neck and back pain. When the spine is aligned and free of nervous system interference, your whole body is better prepared to deal with the different types of stress we all encounter on a daily basis. And let’s face it, women have complicated lives with complex health issues! Chiropractic is an essential part of restoring and maintaining lifetime wellness.

  • It takes a woman to truly understand another woman. Chiropractic at Elevate Women’s Health Centre is gentle and effective; it’s designed for your spine!

We spend a lot of time helping you understand how to create health in your lifestyle outside our office! We want you getting healthier and healthier as you get older, not having to delete things from your life because you can’t.

With regard to menopause, Dr. Shawna has not only spent several years studying and researching the most current science in perimenopause and menopause care, she’s living it (yikes!). “I understand what it feels like to have your body and brain hijacked by your hormones! I know the emotional and physical roller coaster you’re on. I’d love to help you smooth out the journey.”

  • Who’s kidding who? Being born is hard work! Even an uncomplicated birth has consequences for baby’s spine. Excessive force or complications during delivery can create misalignments in the spinal column and compromise nervous system function. Birth trauma continues to be a severely under-treated problem.

Because most neurological development occurs within the first year of life, we encourage getting your baby checked as soon as possible!

If you have kids, chiropractic care is wonderful for making sure they’re growing and developing as healthy as possible. If you have teens (oh my!), too much time looking down at phones and screens with poor posture can make them struggle to keep up with the accumulated stress. Keep them adjusted in order to maintain spinal health and promote optimal development!

  • The most common reason people bring infants and kids to us is for conditions like colic, constipation, focus issues, emotional dysregulation, asthma and gut issues. But really, anything that feels “off” to you can be a sign that their nervous system is out of balance. Dr. Shawna is an International Chiropractic Pediatric Association certified doctor in infant and pediatric care.

As kids get older, sports injuries, falls and poor posture can create a whole host of symptoms. Especially as kids enter puberty and become teenagers! This is a critical time to ensure that their brains and bodies are as connected as possible with regular chiropractic adjustments.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE

Chiropractic adjustments should be gentle, precise and effective. As a woman, I want you to feel comfortable receiving care. I especially want you to feel like your children are in good hands!

I use drop pieces, an instrument called the Activator and manual adjusting in my office. I determine the appropriate technique based on your comfort level. Where I adjust is based on state of the art science. How I adjust is the art of listening to your body and what it needs most.
