Genetic and Functional Testing at
Elevate Women’s Health Centre

Don’t just treat the symptom – heal the CAUSE.

At Elevate Women’s Health Centre, we see women who are frustrated by having depression and anxiety or have a child who suffers from ADHD or sensory processing disorder. You may have tried medications that didn’t work or wish to find a drug-free solution. Since everyone is different, medications won’t have the same effect on each person.

Most conditions such as these are treated based on what the reported symptoms are, not what is right for you as an individual. To remove the guesswork, Dr. Dingman offers genetic and functional testing.

Genetic testing, or in this case NutriGenomic testing, allows Dr. Dingman to see OBJECTIVELY how a person’s genetic code can be creating mental health, focus and sensory processing issues. A NutriGenomic test tells us what SNP’s (or “broken genes”) are present, and therefore what enzymes and co-factors the body should be making but isn’t able to.

Picture your health like a car. Some are made with more mechanical problems than others. Imagine if you bought a car and were told ahead of time what “breakdowns” were likely to occur and when…you could take care of the problem before you ended up stranded at the side of the road.

This is what NutriGenomic (genetic) testing allows us to do for your health. Finding out how your genetic makeup is affecting your overall health allows us to support you in a way that keeps your “car” running as smoothly as possible and for as long as possible.

All it takes is a simple cheek swab done at home or in the office. Once we analyze your test results, we create a Health Roadmap to get you from where you are now to where you should be by replenishing what your body can’t make. Because your genes don’t change, the test only needs to be done once. And the earlier you have it done, the better.

If you are concerned about your hormones, we offer DUTCH testing, currently considered the gold standard in hormone testing. DUTCH stands for Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones. It will give a complete picture of hormone levels as well as cortisol. It is much more comprehensive than the testing typically done through your medical doctor or even many naturopaths. If your hormones are out of balance, it can create almost any kind of symptom in your body. The results are simple and easy to understand, and will tell us how to move forward with your health. If you require more comprehensive care, Dr. Dingman works closely with a naturopath in town and will refer you to them.

Will I need to be retested?

Genetic testing only needs to be done once. Our genes don’t change, and neither will your results. With hormones, however, you may need to be retested if your symptoms return and you are at a different age and stage in your life.
Does this genetic testing tell us about family history?

No. The NutriGenomic (genetic) testing we do at Elevate Women’s Health Centre only tells us about broken genes that can be helped through specific supplementation.
How old do you have to be to have this testing?

Adults and children alike can be tested with Nutrigenomic testing. Typically, only adults use the DUTCH test.
Is this type of testing common?

We are proud to be on the leading edge of chiropractic offices that offer functional testing. At this time, Dr. Dingman is one of the only doctors in Canada certified to offer NutriGenomic testing. And although DUTCH testing is well known in Canada, we are one of the only offices in the Port Perry area to offer this service.
What if I need further testing done?

Dr. Dingman works closely with a naturopath in town who can do blood work panels and many other forms of testing as needed. If you require these services, our chiropractor will be happy to refer you.
